If you have ever carried out a simple search for work-at-home jobs you cannot fail to have noticed all the so-called genuine money-making systems and promises of instant riches you can have for clicking your mouse a couple of hours each day.

At first it is very easy to be taken in by all the slick marketing material and 6 figure Paypal screen shots that seem to jump out at you from every angle. But if you see a video of a tanned male or female sipping a cocktail outside a sun-drenched mansion, boasting about how they went from rags to riches with some "secret" system they want to share with you... please approach with caution.

If you look beyond all the hype and the never-ending promotional videos, you will find these amazing breakthrough systems do not even closely resemble a genuine work from home business opportunity. Despite what they say in their marketing material, these people have one goal in mind - and that is to make money out of you.

What it usually on offer is one of two things (1) A chance to buy a collection of e books (often promoting other similar opportunities the site owner is affiliated to), which you then go on to sell to others and keep a portion of the profits or (2) An introduction to some complicated - often bordering on illegal - system that only an experienced web developer might stand a chance of implementing.

So how do you find out if a work at home opportunity is legitimate?

Well the easiest way is to perform a simple Google search. Key in the name of the program you are researching or its web address if you have it, followed by the word "scam" or "complaints". If other people have already had their fingers burnt by a suspect program, they will almost certainly have shared their experiences on some platform or other.

You could also try taking a look at sites like IM Report Card or Reviewopedia. The sole focus of these sites is to give online earning program users a platform to rate and review which ever opportunity they are involved in to assist others in making an informed choice. There is no selling involved and you will find reviews of hundreds of opportunities - some good and some not so good!

Other places where you can find legitimate online jobs

There are a number of well respected job sites dedicated to advertising genuine work at home jobs only. These sites are operated by professional internet marketers and work in the same way as any other job site. The available work is split into different categories and locations where the employer is recruiting. The operators of these work at home job sites painstakingly screen out any company that is not offering a legitimate work at home job to save you time and trouble.

So to summarise, the internet is a big place and is certainly a land of opportunity for anyone who has the motivation to think outside of the box and earn money in a non traditional way. It is just a case of knowing where to look - and how to avoid falling prey to all the work at home scams out there.

Over the last 4 years Jill Webb has researched hundreds of different ways to earn an income from home. Following on from this she has developed several websites where she shares many of the genuine ways of earning money from home she has found with others.
